The State of Ransomeware 2020

One interesting finding from the survey is that 3% of organizations said their data was not encrypted but they were still held to ransom. This type of attack was particularly dominant in Nigeria, as well as Colombia, South Africa, China, Poland, Belgium and the Philippines. You could argue that this is extortion rather than ransomware. Semantics aside, the most important take-away is this is an attack vector to be vigilant of as crooks look for ways to make money without the effort of encrypting and decrypting files.
