Divergent workload requirements demand a shift away from homogeneity and a one-size-fits-all approach. This shift opens the door for IT organizations to examine newer platforms and systems for their compute, storage, and networking needs. The evaluation of processor subsystems, for example, is now table stakes when making the selection of new platforms and systems. In a study conducted by IDC in 2020, respondents indicated that they plan to increase their investments in heterogeneous infrastructure in the coming years, to be prepared for the onslaught of digital transformation initiatives.
