The current security paradigm sees organisations bolting on more and more siloed security solutions at ever increasing costs and complexity. There is also a trend to ‘secure’ the perimeter with little or no consideration for the internal east/west traffic or the workloads running inside the network. Traditional approaches to securing a datacentre or cloud are focussed on building a strong perimeter to keep threats outside the network. However, little is done to contain a threat once it is inside the network. east-west (server-to-server) traffic accounts for more than 80% of overall data centre traffic, but it’s largely unprotected.
